What you'll need
Connecting this account requires Wattlas Plus.
- An Octopus Energy account with a smart meter reporting
-
An API key from your online dashboard, and
your account number (e.g.
A-1234ABCD) - About 2 minutes - Octopus only shows the key once, so keep the tab open
Connect it in Wattlas
-
Get an API key from Octopus
Sign in and go straight to Octopus's API access page - that link takes you directly there (Personal details → Developer settings → API access), no menu-hunting needed. Copy the key immediately: Octopus only shows it once, so save it somewhere safe if you'll want it for other services too.
-
Open Setup → Tariff in Wattlas
Tap the gear icon top-left of the app, then the receipt icon for the Tariff tab, and switch tariff mode to
Octopus. -
Enter your API key and account number
This is the exact form you'll see:

That's it - everything else auto-fills
Wattlas detects your current tariff and standing charge, and - if your account has Intelligent Octopus Go with a car linked - picks up its smart-charge dispatch windows automatically. See our IOG dispatch tracking post for what that looks like on the chart.
Common questions
Do I need to be on Intelligent Octopus Go for this to work?
No - any Octopus tariff works for real household usage and auto-detected rates. Intelligent Octopus Go specifically also unlocks smart-charge dispatch-window tracking, if your account has a car linked.
Can Wattlas move money, switch my tariff, or change any setting on my Octopus account?
No. Wattlas only ever reads from your Octopus account through their own API - it can't switch tariffs, make payments, or change anything. Disconnecting deletes the stored API key and everything cached alongside it.
