What mySolarEdge already does well

mySolarEdge is SolarEdge's own monitoring app, and it's free for system owners. It's a genuinely solid tool for what it does: real-time and historical generation/consumption, remote EV charging control if you have a SolarEdge charger, and - its real strength - a per-panel, per-optimizer view that can flag an underperforming module directly, something Wattlas doesn't attempt. It does need your installer to grant you monitoring access, and a separate consumption meter for the usage side, but once that's set up it's a capable, well-built app.

What it doesn't do, and what Wattlas adds

mySolarEdge shows you what happened. It doesn't build an independent forecast of what should have happened and flag the gap - that's the specific job Wattlas does. Free builds a forecast from your system's own spec (panel capacity, orientation, tilt) and live weather, with no SolarEdge connection needed at all. Plus adds a live read of your real SolarEdge system on top, compares it against that forecast day by day, and alerts you the moment the two drift apart - a shortfall from a fault or shading, not just a stat you'd have to notice yourself. Wattlas also isn't SolarEdge-only: the same account can cover a battery, an energy supplier's real tariff for a proper cost breakdown, and an EV charger from a different brand entirely, in one place.

Wattlas vs mySolarEdge

  Wattlas mySolarEdge
Price Free tier, plus for Plus:
£1.76/month Free for 3 months
Free
Forecast vs. actual, with alerts Yes - the core of the app No - shows real-time/historical data, not a forecast comparison
Per-panel/optimizer diagnostics No Yes - a genuine SolarEdge strength
Covers other brands in one account Yes - battery, tariff, and EV charger brands beyond SolarEdge No - SolarEdge hardware only
Setup Self-serve sign-up Needs your installer to grant monitoring access

Which one should you use?

Realistically, both - they're not solving the same problem. mySolarEdge is the right place for panel-level fault diagnosis, since Wattlas doesn't have that view into your system. Wattlas is the right place for "is this actually performing the way it should be," a forecast-based check mySolarEdge doesn't do, plus a single view if your setup includes a battery, a different-brand EV charger, or you just want your real cost broken down by your actual tariff.
